Greenhouse Engagements | Elyse and Chris

I love Elyse and Chris. I had wanted to do some engagements in a greenhouse for some time and they were game for the idea. Chris is super tall and the height difference is adorable. Here is the story of how they met in Elyse’s words:
Chris and I met in April of 2013. We were in the same ward and the same FHE group for two semesters. I remember going over to his apartment to meet him and his roommates and hearing him say that he was from Kentucky which caught my attention because I’m from Kentucky, as well. He quickly became my best friend.

We spent a lot of time talking and hanging out during school breaks because we were usually two of the few people left in Rexburg over the week or seven week breaks. We would go on ‘dates’ together when we needed someone to go on a group date with but I never considered them dates. We joked that we were each other’s “back-up”.

Throughout the time we knew each other, I would come home to find surprise flowers on my door or cupcakes after he’d made me mad. I finally realized that he liked me as more than a friend. My roommates all made jokes about how he and I were going to end up getting married, because we spent so much time together or texting.

I started to date other people and I was always trying to encourage him to get out there and date, when finally, he came over to my apartment to introduce me to his girlfriend! I was almost relieved that he wasn’t going to be spending so much time and energy on me.

After some more time spent together, Chris and I decided that maybe we could try dating. I was still hesitant because I didn’t want to mess up a great friendship if it didn’t work out. I knew that some things about Chris were really annoying to me and that we were so different in so many ways, but what I didn’t realize, was that Chris would end up treating me better than anyone I had ever dated. We would end up having more in common than I thought and we had just enough differences to keep us interested.

We went on our first official date to see Big Hero 6 on November 14, 2014. We told each other we loved each other on December 9, 2014 and we started dating “officially” on December 13, 2015. We planned on going down to Arizona for Christmas to be with his family. By that point, we knew that we were going to get married. We’d already talked about it and we never really said “if we get married,” it was always “when we get married.” We had basically half of our wedding planned a few months before Chris even proposed, but five days before my birthday on March 5, 2015, he proposed in front of my friends and it’s been the best choice I’ve made so far.

Because he’s known me as a friend for a year and a half, he knows exactly how to make me laugh and he lets me cry when I get upset. It definitely wasn’t easy for me at first, but here we are, engaged, getting married in three months and I’ve never been happier. We get asked all the time “So what made you realize that you wanted to start dating”. Chris has the easy answer of ‘I always HOPED that we would,’ but I don’t think there’s a reason in my mind that I can think of, just a feeling. A feeling that pushed me to him and now I can’t imagine my life without him in it, and now I get to have him for Eternity!
